Eric Ashdown is Chief Security Advisor for Microsoft Greater China Region. His responsibility is to take a senior advisory role for both security and privacy issues that effect Microsoft's business in Greater China. His focus is to extend and enhance our security solutions through the growing number of Microsoft Technology Centers we have helped establish throughout China . Through his role, Eric will assist in driving strategic security with key Government entities and private sector clients throughout China , Hong Kong and Taiwan . Eric's role reflects Microsoft's commitment to use its own resources to support customers and address government policy issues related to security and privacy.

Eric has over 20 years of business experience, 10 years in Information Security and 11 years as an investment banker. At Microsoft, Eric has worked with large multinationals, on-line gaming firms, automobile manufacturers and Government entities. Prior to Microsoft, he was Partner in charge of Ernst & Young's Technology & Security Risk Services business for Greater China where he developed and managed a team of 50 professionals. In this capacity he built and managed security consulting relationships with ICBC Bank, Ping An Insurance, Pudong Development Bank, Shenzhen Development Bank, the HK Government and many large MNCs. His experience includes both consulting and software sales and he has assisted in the development of standards in security and privacy – TRUSTe, the Software Publishers Association Electronic Software Distribution Standard (working with Microsoft) and Banking standards for cryptographic applications. He and his previous team performed the first 2 ethical hacking engagements by a foreign consulting firm for PRC Banks in China . Both of these efforts received China Banking Regulatory Commission approval without comment. Eric's security experience has been driven by a desire to make security and privacy a profitable business enabler.

Eric received his MBA in International Business from the George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Studies/East Asia from the University of the Pacific. During his undergraduate studies he spent a year at Taiwan National University and Taiwan Normal University as an exchange student studying Chinese History and Mandarin.
